Prayer and Hope For Burma

P3070043
After arriving in Thailand, we got settled into the bunkhouse at Dave's place. Soon, Dave was filling us in on the plight of Burma. His heart longs to see the evil and oppression that exists in Burma, removed, and the pain inflicted by a ruthless genocidal regime healed.

Many people had been invited to Dave's home to meet us who were involved in cross border aid, advocacy for the Burma situation, and leaders and ethnics that are trying help as many people as they can and raise the level of awareness.

It honestly amazes me what has been going on in Burma for so many years, yet the U.N, and the U.S has done nothing to bring the current dictatorship to the table and answer for the atrocities being committed by them against their own people.

It would be as if the Military wing of the U.S took over control of our nation, imposing martial law, and then decided that 60% of the States didn't deserve to live, so they began to mercilessly go and massacre the people, town by town, city by city.

As we began to get ready to head towards Bueng Klung, we did a quick video message from Dave to the community at SVA. Our goal was to upload it so it would be ready to play on the Global Day of Prayer for Burma…but internet communications were poor at best so I was not able to upload the quick encouragement!

It is past the Day of Prayer now, but be encouraged to keep praying the peoles of Burma as you listen to a quick story from Dave Eubank, the founder of Free Burma Rangers.

Burma: Global Day Of Prayer March 8 2009

2008_faith_01
I am writing this about an hour and a half before I jump on a plane and head to Thailand, and then North towards Bueng Klung on the Thai- Burma border. We are teaming up with the Free Burma rangers to make an impact on the lives of children orphaned by the atrocities being done by the Government of Burma (Myanmar).

If travel goes as planned, we might be in Mae Sot as you read this. What I am most excited about is being a throw a way from Burma on the Global Day of Prayer for Burma!

Over 50 years of civil war has left Burma one of the poorest countries in the world. The military dictatorship attacks its own people, killing thousands, and leaving millions displaced. Many in opposition are either imprisoned or killed. In most of the country there is a false peace due to the dictator's ability to control dissent; however, in some ethnic areas the regime's army is still attacking the people. There are over one million internally displaced people, more than 80,000 of whom have been displaced in the last two years, and over one million refugees who have fled the country.(from Global Day of Prayer Book)

If you have a chance today, please browse over to christians concerned for burma and spend some time reading and praying for the people of Burma who are forced out of their villages, murdered, imprisoned and beaten. This simply should not be happening anywhere in the world in 2009!

In the Old Testament, the prophet Micah summed up the way we should respond in this world:

8He has told you, O man, what is good;
and what does the LORD require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,                                                                                                   and to walk humbly with your God?

Micah 6:8

As God's people we are called to -do- justice, not talk about it in committee.

As God's people we are called to -love- kindness, allowing it to be our motivational center.

As God's people we are to walk humbly with our God, not presumptuously, or arrogantly, but surrendered to His direction and purposes…

Today…pray…pray for the people of Burma…pray that they would be able to forgive and release their offenders…pray that God would restore all that the locusts have eaten…pray that you would begin to do justice in the world, and that you would exhibit kindness and compassion because you are aligned and in tune with the heart beat of Abba.

Matsiko Was Incredible!

What an incredible event. Matsiko, a Children's Choir from Uganda, sang, told their stories, an d encouraged so many people this past Sunday. It has been two years since I have been in Uganda, and simply seeing their smiling faces and hearing their voices unearthed my love for Uganda again.

It is also a grand reminder about the importance of our personal connection and commitment to the people in Kasitu, Uganda. We have sponsored hundreds of kids, brought in fresh water, and are looking to deepen our relationship with a couple strategic churches in the area.

When we first visited Kasitu in 2005, the need seemed so huge, and we wondered if we really could make an impact…well, we have, and will continue to do what we can where we can. Each person can make a difference, and when that is multiplied by hundreds or thousands of others, the impact is exponential!

Enjoy some pics from Sunday! Thank you Matsiko!
