I am writing this about an hour and a half before I jump on a plane and head to Thailand, and then North towards Bueng Klung on the Thai- Burma border. We are teaming up with the Free Burma rangers to make an impact on the lives of children orphaned by the atrocities being done by the Government of Burma (Myanmar).

If travel goes as planned, we might be in Mae Sot as you read this. What I am most excited about is being a throw a way from Burma on the Global Day of Prayer for Burma!

Over 50 years of civil war has left Burma one of the poorest countries in the world. The military dictatorship attacks its own people, killing thousands, and leaving millions displaced. Many in opposition are either imprisoned or killed. In most of the country there is a false peace due to the dictator's ability to control dissent; however, in some ethnic areas the regime's army is still attacking the people. There are over one million internally displaced people, more than 80,000 of whom have been displaced in the last two years, and over one million refugees who have fled the country.(from Global Day of Prayer Book)

If you have a chance today, please browse over to christians concerned for burma and spend some time reading and praying for the people of Burma who are forced out of their villages, murdered, imprisoned and beaten. This simply should not be happening anywhere in the world in 2009!

In the Old Testament, the prophet Micah summed up the way we should respond in this world:

8He has told you, O man, what is good;
   and what does the LORD require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,                                                                                                   and to walk humbly with your God?

Micah 6:8

As God's people we are called to -do- justice, not talk about it in committee.

As God's people we are called to -love- kindness, allowing it to be our motivational center.

As God's people we are to walk humbly with our God, not presumptuously, or arrogantly, but surrendered to His direction and purposes…

Today…pray…pray for the people of Burma…pray that they would be able to forgive and release their offenders…pray that God would restore all that the locusts have eaten…pray that you would begin to do justice in the world, and that you would exhibit kindness and compassion because you are aligned and in tune with the heart beat of Abba.
