Days of Heaven on Earth

Monday, May 03, 2010

Here lies the secret of abiding peace-God's
peace. We give ourselves to God and the Holy Spirit takes possession of
our hearts. It is indeed "Peace, peace." But it is at this precise point
that the devil begins to interfere, and he does it through our
thoughts, diverting or distracting them as the occasion requires.

This is the time to prove the sincerity of our consecration and the
singleness of our hearts. If we truly desire His presence more than
anything, we will turn away from every conflicting thought and look
steadily up to Jesus. But if we desire the gratification of our impulses
more than His presence, we will yield to the passionate word, or the
frivolous thought, or the sinful diversion. Then when we come back, our
Shepherd has gone, and we wonder why our peace has departed.

Failure occurs often in some insignificant thing-usually a thought or
word. The soul that would not fear to climb a mountain may actually
stumble over a straw.

The real secret of perfect rest is to be jealously, habitually
occupied with Jesus.

This is too funny…to good…too scarily true 🙂

From The Poet’s Heart

Poetry has a way of working deep, interpreting the language of the soul. In many ways, prayer is a form of freestyle poetry, as is song. A life-lived in honesty is visual poetry, containing all the beauty and ash of life. While I was reading this morning, the following verse became a translator of the heart. I sense and see in it's words how the song of our life, whether well-sung, or not, caught God's ear, it's melody drew Him, and He came near…breathe and read…

Dei Gratia,

Monty

You came
down from your throne and

Stood at
my cottage door.

I was
singing all alone in a corner,

And the
melody caught your ear. You

Came
down and stood at my cottage door.

Masters
are many in your hall, and

Songs
are sung there at all hours. But

The simple
carol of this novice struck

At your
love. One plaintive little strain

Mingled
with the great music of the

World,
and with a flower for a prize you

came
down and stopped at my cottage

Door.

eXpelled…a documentery by Ben Stein

Expelled Intelligent design…Theistic evolution…Gap Theory…Creationism…not only have I had to write many papers on these subjects, but the conversation about how we got here is still a major question I am asked about often. A few years back I taught a series called, “Is Christianity Believable?” In that talk we looked at science and faith and how they are actually protagonists, not antagonists.

If you are currently wondering about, or dealing with this issue, I would encourage you to watch a movie that was put out by Ben Stein called Expelled. It is definitely worth a viewing. He honestly asks good questions and allows everyone to speak in his quest for what is true. Below is an extended trailer for the movie and a link to snag a copy of your own to watch with your family.

enjoy!
